Can you send me a detailed steps to install SunCluster3.2 on 32bit x86 system? Thanks

  2. admin says:

First, this is no supported by Sun (so only for education). You must contact Matthias Pfützner for 32-bit kernel modules for SC3.2 x86 (email him).

    http://blogs.sun.com/pfuetz/entry/suncluster_x86_in_32_bit

You can also get Solaris Cluster Express which containts 32bit modules and should work on 32 bit x86. Good luck.

BTW: sorry for late reply, i was off for several days…

Can you send me detail steps to install oracle using Sun clusters on VMWARE windows XP being the host machine.

  4. admin says:

Unfortunatley no, because i don’t have that one. Just arm your workstation/server with minimum 4GB RAM, RAID0 array from minimum 2-3 HDDs(can be SATA). Go with minimum 4 cores or 4 CPUs for it. Then install VMware Server(for shared SCSI channels — it’s a hack). Then build 2 VMs with 2 cores/CPUs per VM. Build several shared SCSI LUNs and try to get Solaris Cluster up & running. Without dedicated cores you will end up with “pm_tick delay” issue because SC uses realtime processes for evicting and detecting systems hang issues. On top of that then you can install Oracle RAC if you want to (it’s pretty heavy, and in my opinion it’s too complicated).

Better have 64-bit CPU because 32-bit as I remeber so many bugs that it was pretty unstable (but mainly due to virtualisation).

IMHO if you want to play with Oracle better utilise RAC without SC (for simplicity). RAC+Clusterware itself is very complex…

    dear admin

    hello i am Chang, Sehee

it’s nothing much but i was going through to learn how to install vmware’s sun cluster and i saw your blog but to do this it says that i need SUNWscka package but this not wellknown so i am asking for it.

    thank you

  6. admin says:

Hi Chang, I can’t locate it right now, probably i’ve deleted it some time ago. I recommend playing 64-bit version, it should be much more mature and up to date.

could you please send me SUNWscka package. Thanks for your effort!
    Regards..

  10. admin says:

    Hi Fuat,

unfortunately i do not have it anymore on my HDD. Currently i would just download Solaris Cluster from oracle.com plus Oracle Solaris 11 (or even better stick to the old tried 10). You should be able to do it as long as you provide enough dedicated VCPUs for VMware (minimum 4 in my opinion).
